📅 - Telecommunications carrier Broadwing Communications (broadwing.com), a subsidiary of Corvis Corporation (corvis.com), announced today that it has lit 1,200 additional all-optical route miles along the eastern coast of Florida, extending the company's nationwide all-optical core from Atlanta to Miami.
The Texas-based company said the expansion brings additional bandwidth and new route redundancy capabilities to enterprise and carrier customers in various cities in Florida, enhancing network reliability and security. "Our expansion in Florida is an important first step in the larger network investment plan drawn up by Broadwing's new owners and our first-rate engineering team," said Mark F. Spagnolo, CEO of Broadwing. "In the past, market dynamics prevented the company from completing projects like this one. Now, with our strong balance sheet, the 'new' Broadwing can move forward with strategic investments that will reduce network costs and enhance service to our customers." Maryland-based Corvis completed the acquisition of Broadwing in June.
