Apr 20, 2004 : Domain Names Australia Appeals Ruling

📅 - According to a report from The Age, Chelsey Rafferty, owner of Domain Names Australia, has appealed against a federal court ruling that found his business sent prospective customers deceptive and misleading letters. The injunctions were filed against Domain Name Australia earlier this month by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and AuDA, the Australian domain name administrator and self-regulator.

Authorities said the letters from Domain Names Australia were designed to look like invoices and conveyed the impression that recipients would have their registrations cancelled if they did not pay a fee ($237) by a certain due date.
Rafferty is seeking to have the injunctions lifted. He told The Age that he has the right to conduct business without interference from competitors and said "vested interests" in the domain registration business are attempting to protect their position.
The report said Rafferty has complied with all the stipulations of the injunction.
