May 14, 2004 : Sun Unveils Disaster Recovery for SMEs

📅 May 14, 2004 - Sun Microsystems (sun.com) and SunGard Availability Services, an operating group of integrated software solution developer SunGard (sungard.com), announced the release of Sun Disaster Recovery Managed Services on Thursday, a joint offering that provides small and medium-sized companies with services and technology that help them architect disaster recovery solutions. The company said the low-cost services help businesses remove the barriers and cost of maintaining continuous business operations.

"It's simple math. If your network is down, you're losing money, and that can put a small-mid sized company out of business pretty darn fast," says Scott McNealy, chairman and CEO of Sun. "The Sun and SunGard solution ensures that the network is available anytime, anywhere, anyplace."
Sun disaster recovery managed services include system recovery, end user recovery, mobile recovery, disaster recovery planning, recovery preparation and test assistance.
"This partnership is a natural fit," says Cristobal I. Conde, president and CEO of SunGard. "Now, Sun can provide SunGard Availability Services' portfolio of information availability products directly to its customers."

📅 May 13, 2004 - Beheading Video Web Site Shut Down - A Web site that posted a video showing the beheading of American citizen Nicholas Berg was shut down by its hosting provider Acme Commerce Sdn Bhd (webserver.com.my ), according to a report by the Associated Press. Alfred Lim, business manager for the Malaysian-based company, told the Associated Press that his company was not aware whether the site, www.al-ansar.biz, may have had links to the terrorist organization al-Qaeda, reportedly responsible for the video, or that offensive material had been published on the site.
