May 3, 2005 : Netcraft Launches Phishing Site Feed
📅 - Research and analysis firm Netcraft (netcraft.com) said this week that it had released a phishing site feed using data collected by the Netcraft toolbar (toolbar.netcraft.com). Launched earlier this year, the Netcraft toolbar enables users to report phishing sites, blocking them for everyone with the toolbar. Netcraft says it will now make the list of phishing sites reported by the toolbar available as a continuously updated feed for Internet service providers, Web hosting companies and enterprises. "The phishing site feed is a continuously updated encrypted database of patterns that match phishing URLs reported by the Netcraft Toolbar community and validated by Netcraft," the company says. "The feed employs a versioning system to ensure that customers who have fallen behind can catch up incrementally, or if necessary, by requesting the full database." Netcraft says the feed can help prevent phishing attacks and can be used by service providers as a marketing tool.
