Jun 6, 2005 : Australian Bank Hit by Phishing Scam


📅 - ANZ Bank in Australia was the victim of a phishing attack over the weekend, according to a report by Australian IT.


Emails originating from an US Internet address were used in an attempt to trick recipients into divulging their Internet banking passwords. It asks the recipient to enter the information on a Web form embedded in the email.

A spokesperson said in the report that Australian Federal Police and security group AusCERT had been notified and hoped to have the site shut down as soon as possible.

According to data provided by the Anti-Phishing Working Group, the US is the most popular country for hosting phishing sites.
