Apr, 2001 : Cogent connects to LayerOne?s optical transport exchanges

📅 April 18, 2001 - LayerOne Inc. (layerone.com), a provider of optical transport exchanges and connectivity services, earlier this week announced a national service agreement with Cogent Communications, a provider of high-speed Internet access and transport services.
As a result of the agreement, LayerOne will provide Cogent with network interconnection with multiple local and long-haul carriers through its Optical Distribution Exchanges, as well as a means to expand its IP services into new markets.
Cogent Communications has built an IP+Optical end-to-end network that stretches nationwide, and offers an unprecedented level of optical bandwidth to its commercial and service provider customer base.
According to LayerOne, the company's exchange offers a practical solution to costly network entrance build outs and interconnection. The company says its services make it easier for Cogent to conduct business with its clients.
Cogent says that it has completed the build out of its national backbone, and has made it a high priority to deepen its connectivity in each market that it serves. And working with LayerOne, says Cogent, has helped the company to do that.
