📅 - LayerOne Inc (layerone.com), a leading provider of optical transport exchanges and connectivity services, announced on Monday that CityNet Telecommunications Inc. (citynettelecom.com), a provider of high-speed metropolitan fiber optic networks, would participate in LayerOne's NEXUS Optical Distribution Exchanges in telecommunications markets throughout North America. CityNet, a leader in providing last-mile broadband services for telecom carriers and network service provider customers, will connect its dark fiber to LayerOne's exchanges in order to provide its carrier customers with easy access to local and long haul networks. LayerOne says it provides a centralized market solution for network interconnection and transport exchange, currently operating exchanges in Dallas and Miami. The company is scheduled to open Exchanges in Chicago and St. Louis this quarter, and another six facilities by early 2002. According to LayerOne, the company's exchanges bring service providers in a given market to a centralized interconnection hub, creating an ideal collecting point for CityNet's last mile network. CityNet, says LayerOne, can access the network elements it needs to provide its customers an end-to-end fiber network, while at the same time tapping into a waiting market for its dark fiber network. Using city sewer systems to deploy its high-speed fiber optic lines directly into the basements of metropolitan buildings, CityNet leases its fiber to telecommunications companies, Internet and network service providers, who then resell the high-speed service to their own end users. According to CityNet, the LayerOne Exchanges are an ideal source through which the company's customers can access other networks.
