Jul 11, 2005 : Cogent Adds Markets, Expands Capacity

📅 - Internet service provider Cogent Communications (cogentco.com) said on Monday that it would offer IP Ethernet service to several new markets in North America and Europe.
Cogent will offer its full suite of On-Net services, including Internet transit and Layer 2 point-to-point connectivity. The new markets are Baltimore, Cleveland, Portland and St. Louis in the United States, and Copenhagen, Nuremberg, Vienna, Vigo and Porto in Europe. "We identified these cities for On-Net services based on bandwidth demand and repeated inquiries from prospects located in these markets," says Dave Schaeffer, CEO of Cogent Communications. "While Cogent remains focused on increasing revenue in existing markets, these locations represent strategic opportunities to expand service to new geographic areas." The company also said it had expanded its transatlantic capacity to accommodate growing customer demand. With the additions, Cogent now operates an OC-192 between New York and Madrid, an OC-192 between Boston and London, and OC-48 between Washington, DC and Frankfurt.
