) said this week that it had doubled capacity at its Fremont, California data center facility and added a connection to LAIIX, an Internet exchange point located in TELEHOUSE's Los Angeles facility.
Hurricane added 25 percent more capacity to its Fremont, California facility in the last quarter. With the expansions earlier this year, the facility increased its capacity by 100 percent in an approximately six-month period. Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric, says the upgrades have been made in order to meet growing demand. Hurricane says the gigabit Ethernet port it employs to the LAIIX switch will enhance connectivity on the US West coast and improve its global OC-48 backbone. It will also create additional redundancies, generate more peering opportunities and ensure shorter packet routes to other networks. Leber says Hurricane will open a new colocation facility in the next few months.
