Jul 8, 2005 : Cisco Shuffles Executives, Management

📅 July 8, 2005 - Network hardware builder Cisco Systems (cisco.com) announced Thursday that it had undergone significant restructuring, resulting in the appointment and expanding roles of key staff. Leading the series of appointments is Charles H. Giancarlo, who was named Cisco's new chief development officer, effective July 31.

Giancarlo, formerly Cisco's chief technology officer, will succeed Mario Mazzola who will retire from Cisco after serving over 12 years for the company. Giancarlo will report to Cisco president and CEO John Chambers.

Cisco has also expanded the roles of key leaders within its engineering divisions. Jayshree Ullal, senior vice president of Cisco's security technology group, will now head the company's data center, switching and security technology group. Mike Volpi, senior vice president of Cisco's routing technology group, will now oversee optical and service provider voice technologies.

Other key Cisco appointments include Kathy Hill being named senior vice president of ethernet systems and wireless technology group. Don Proctor has been named the senior vice president of the voice technology group. Tony Bates has been appointed to senior vice president of the carrier core and multiservices business unit. Ian Pennell has been promoted to senior vice president of the access business unit. Finally, Pankaj Patel has been named the senior vice president of the broadband edge & mid-range routing business unit.
