Sep 22, 2005 : Energis Picks Xtera for UK Backbone

📅 September 22, 2005 - Internet service and Web hosting provider Energis (energis.com) announced on Thursday that it had selected Xtera Communications (xtera.com) as the DWDM supplier for its backbone network in the United Kingdom.
Xtera will construct the new optical backbone with Nu-Wave, Xtera's multi-reach DWDM transport system. Xtera will also provide a suite of support services. Energis is using DWDm technology to build a national multi-service network providing high-capacity optical bandwidth to fifty locations throughout the UK. It will span 4,000 km and comprise more than 60 network elements. Energis says the technology will give it the connectivity and flexibility required for their delivery of bandwidth-intensive video and data services. "Using Nu-Wave's high-capacity multi-reach capabilities, we are able to simplify our national network and provide our customers with higher quality services, while lowering equipment and operational costs," says Alex Holt, business development director for the media sector at Energis. Energis was recently acquired by Cable & Wireless (cw.com).
