📅 November 7, 2005 - Web hosting automation software developer Sphera (sphera.com) announced on Monday that it had developed a platform for BellSouth (bellsouth.com), enabling it to deliver Web hosting and hosted applications to residential and small business customers. The hosted application capabilities include e-commerce, premium email, collaboration and customer relationship management.

Sphera says the open, standards-based platform, enables BellSouth to widen the scope of its product offerings, expand customization capabilities and achieve better economies of scale, while reducing costs and improving margins. The platform accommodates both Windows and Linux-based hosting.
Tim Hill, director of portal services for BellSouth, says it deployed the Sphera platform because its customers have expressed the need for advanced email and e-commerce capabilities. "Sphera is extremely pleased with our partnership with BellSouth," says Michael Gold, chief executive officer for Sphera. "The infrastructure we have developed supports millions of customers and delivers virtually any Web-based and business application as part of an enhanced Web hosting service. We believe this solution has strengthened BellSouth's leadership position within the telecommunications industry, and look forward to expanding our pioneering technologies together." The two companies migrated more than 100,000 Web sites, email, ftp and e-commerce accounts to the new platform within a month.
