📅 - Netlify Raises $30M to Replace Web Servers With Global Application Delivery Network - Netlify (netlify.com), a provider of a global application delivery network that would completely eliminate the need to worry about infrastructure and hosting, has raised an additional $30 million led by Kleiner Perkins (kleinerperkins.com)' Mamoon Hamid with Andreessen Horowitz and the founders of Slack, Yelp, GitHub and Figma participating.

📅 - Second ‘Renewable’ Data Center for Equinix in Bulgaria - Global colocation data center company and interconnection provider Equinix has planned to open its second Bulgarian International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Q1 2019. The $19 million data center in Bulgaria's capital Sofia will provide approximately 350 data center cabinets in the first phase of build out with the opportunity to add 1,100 cabinets in subsequent phases.
The SO2 data center will provide a secured colocation data center environment for local businesses and multinationals looking to expand into Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Additionally, Equinix SO2 (equinix.com) will have direct connectivity to the Bulgarian Internet Exchange (BIX) (bix.bg).

📅 - ‘No Secret Chinese Spy Chips Hidden In Supermicro Servers’ - In an article published by Bloomberg last week, it was alleged that Supermicro (supermicro.com) servers sold to certain customers contained Chinese grain-of-rice-sized spying chips on its motherboards in 2015. Now, US Homeland Security officials as well as UK spymasters and others have supported denials that Chinese agents were able to smuggle small secret spy chips into Supermicro servers.
In the article Bloomberg stated that Chinese secret agents installed tiny chips the size of a grain of rice on server motherboards built by US-based Supermicro, which were used by companies across the U.S. tech industry including Amazon and Apple.

📅 - 4.5 Billion Rata Records Compromised Worldwide in 1st Half 2018 - 945 data breaches led to 4.5 billion data records being compromised worldwide in the first half of 2018, according to Gemalto's Breach Level Index – a global database of public data breaches.
Compared to the same period in 2017, the number of lost, stolen or compromised records increased by a staggering 133 percent, though the total number of breaches slightly decreased over the same period, signaling an increase in the severity of each incident.
A total of six social media breaches, including the Cambridge Analytica-Facebook incident, accounted for over 56 percent of total records compromised. Of the 945 data breaches, 189 (20 percent of all breaches) had an unknown or unaccounted number
