Dec, 2016 : Facebook Accused of Misleading EU Watchdogs


📅 - Facebook has been accused of misleading European Union watchdogs in 2014, while the company sought approval to buy the popular WhatsApp messaging service. The EU's antitrust authority suspects that Facebook gave “incorrect or misleading information” about linking data with WhatsApp two years ago .

Margrethe Vestager the EU Competition Commissioner is investigating the situation.

“These are serious allegatons. If Facebook provided misleading information about its ability to match Facebook and WhatsApp accounts it basically blocked the commission from checking the implications of data of this merger. This s unacceptable and sheds a bad light on the company's readiness to respect consumers' privacy,” said Agustin Reyna of BEUC, a European consumer advocate group.
