📅 - The cloud business from IBM makes about $4.5 billion in revenue, which doesn't even include the private cloud infrastructure. This is less than Amazon Web Services, but about 45% more than last year for IBM.
During the third quarter, IBM didn't have much good news within the earnings report. However, the cloud business is growing, which was a bright spot.
IBM's CFO Martin Schroeter stated that the company is transitioning itself and repositioning for the future. They are aiming at dominating cloud services and taking over the Big Data analytics section of the industry. .

📅 - Cloud Service Docker was Recently Bought by Tutum - A startup responsible for the Linux container format, Docker has now been purchased by Tutum. Tutum is a company providing management for containerized applications. They also deploy these applications within the cloud infrastructure.
The two companies are very complimentary of each other with Tutum providing infrastructure management and Docker providing development and cloud services. Docker was built around open source technology and Tutum expects this acquisition to provide a new revenue stream.

📅 - Divshot Acquired by Google - Divshot, an HTML5 website hosting platform was recently acquired by Google. This Los Angeles-based startup announced the acquisition on their website and on the Firebase blog recently. Divshot will shut down in mid-December and will no longer be separate from Google.
The beta launch of Divshot happened in late 2012. They received about $1.1 million in seed funding and migrated to Firebase Hosting. Firebase and Divshot serve an overlapping market with the growing popularity of HTML5.

📅 - Cybersquatting Battle for .Porn Won by Verizon - The battle for the domain name Verizon.porn was recently won by Verizon. This was done through a UDRP or Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy complaint.
A report released by Domain Name Wire stated this was the first lawsuit against a .adult or a .port domain name. The domain name was originally registered by a New York real estate agent. It was done when the .porn and .adult domains were first made available on June 4th.
Verizon also took over the domain verizonwireless.porn in late June. They didn't need a UDRP complaint for this domain name, however. .
📅 - New Cloud Platform Launched in Asia by LeaseWeb - LeaseWeb, a web hosting provider, has recently launched a cloud platform in the Asia-Pacific market. They are not just dipping their toe in the water, but diving in with a full set of cloud services. The announcement was made on Monday and both public and private cloud products will be available.
The product suite for the Asian market will be about the same as the other products offered by LeaseWeb in the United States, Germany and the Netherlands. They will use the flat fee pricing model and will offer Apache CloudStack, along with fully redundant architecture.

📅 - Virtustream Services Announced by VMware and EMC Corporation - Recently, VMware and EMC Corporation announced they will be co-owners of Virtustream. EMC purchased the company for $1.2 billion early this year. They are bringing VMware on to provide a range of cloud services. This will allow EMC and VMware to compete with larger cloud provides, such as Microsoft, Amazon and Google.
The timing of the announcement is interesting because just last week, Dell announced they will acquire EMC for $67 billion. This will be the largest technology deal ever and will include the EMC shares of VMware.
