Virtustream Services Announced by VMware and EMC Corporation

📅 October 21, 2015 - Recently, VMware and EMC Corporation announced they will be co-owners of Virtustream. EMC purchased the company for $1.2 billion early this year. They are bringing VMware on to provide a range of cloud services. This will allow EMC and VMware to compete with larger cloud provides, such as Microsoft, Amazon and Google.

The timing of the announcement is interesting because just last week, Dell announced they will acquire EMC for $67 billion. This will be the largest technology deal ever and will include the EMC shares of VMware.

Many believe the partnership may be due to falling shares at VMware. Even though the news of EMC being purchased by Dell caused the shared to drop 5%, Michael Dell stated if the plan goes through, VMware would still be run as an independent entity.

📅 Oct 20, 2015 - Cybersquatting Battle for .Porn Won by Verizon - The battle for the domain name Verizon.porn was recently won by Verizon. This was done through a UDRP or Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy complaint.

A report released by Domain Name Wire stated this was the first lawsuit against a .adult or a .port domain name. The domain name was originally registered by a New York real estate agent. It was done when the .porn and .adult domains were first made available on June 4th.

Verizon also took over the domain verizonwireless.porn in late June. They didn't need a UDRP complaint for this domain name, however.

During the third quarter, IBM didn't have much good news within the earnings report. However, the cloud business is growing, which was a bright spot.
