📅 December 12, 2006 - Web hosting provider GlobalWebBrands (globalwebbrands.com) announced on Monday it has launched a free Web hosting service, FreewayWebhost (freewaywebhost.com). The new service offers free hosting through a user's own domain name, or through a FreewayWebhost subdomain.

The new service from GlobalWebBrands is subsidized through text and banner advertisements that appear on users' Web sites. If users prefer to have an ad-free Web site, they can upgrade to a paid hosting package.

"One thing that sets our new hosting service apart from other players is that we have the ability to host our users' domain names," says GlobalWebBrands CEO Daniel Briere. "Many free hosts just give a subdirectory or subdomain of the host's own domain. However, we wanted to offer a truly useful service."

Users may register their domains through FreewayWebhost, or through a previously registered domain, as the company's subdomain hosting service does not require users to have their own domains. GlobalWebBrands previously offered a free hosting service, Q151, earlier this year, but shut it down after facing several hacking attacks.
