📅 - AT&T (att.com) announced on Monday it has decided to open a data center in Shanghai, China despite restrictive market hurdles, according to reports by the Wall Street Journal.
AT&T says the new data center will be used to host Web sites and servers for customers and will also operate with a Chinese partner.
The company declined to say how much it is investing in the Shanghai center, its first such facility in China.
The report states that although the Chinese government has made pledges to open the telecommunications services market in order to gain admission to the WTO five years ago, the country still remains a difficult place for AT&T and other foreign carriers to work.
