👈 Official Responses: 0 -> ibm.com) has completed upgrades of all its data center connectivity including 20 additional 10G connections between its Dallas, Seattle and Washington DC facilities to create a total network capacity topping 200G.
According to the company's Monday announcement, the new connections provide additional redundancy with low latency across both SoftLayer's public and private networks, and increase bandwidth for SoftLayer customers' ever-growing capacity needs.
"Network reliability is the backbone of all we offer and our customers' first priority," SoftLayer engineering division vice president Ric Moseley said in a statement. "We are committed to continually enhancing our network and increasing our redundant connections to ensure we deliver industry-leading performance and uptime."
SoftLayer's Seattle data center added 10G peering connections from Comcast and the Seattle Internet Exchange, as well as 10G transit connections from Level 3 and NTT America. Its upgrades also included the installation of Internap's (internap.com -> inap.com) Flow Control Platform, which enhances border gateway protocol routing performance by monitoring each provider's connections and rerouting traffic during an interruption.
In upgrading the Dallas data center, SoftLayer added a 10G Comcast connection for private peering, which currently carries more than 2.5Gbps of network traffic and it will have connectivity into Equinix facilities in Dallas and Washington DC in the coming days, providing direct connections to additional carriers.
In the summer, WHIR TV interviewed SoftLayer chief strategy officer George Karidis regarding the company's recent growth and areas of expansion.
Another area of SoftLayer's business has also recently achieved a milestone. In November, about a year after launching storage and backup solution StorageLayer, SoftLayer announced that StorageLayer reached 500TB of deployed network storage, helping it deliver backup, disaster recovery and database replication services better.
