📅 December 10, 2008 - Arkansas-based hosting provider Integris Tech (integristech.com) has opened a new data center for its managed hosting and co-location services network, the Integris Co-Location Network (otherwise known as ICON), which includes the only true data-rated fireproof server vault in the region.


Fireproof data center cabinetry developer Firelock (servervaults.com) announced the opening of Integris' new data center, which features a "data vault" that can withstand external temperatures up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, keeping the interior temperature below 125 degrees for at least three hours. The data vault is just one of many features Integris has implemented to increase its reliability.

With roughly 90 percent of its clients in the health care industry, data preservation in Integris' new facility has added importance becasue of its need to keep patient information for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

"We chose to invest in a data-rated fireproof server vault because our clients demand the highest level of protection for their critical information," Integris Tech director Allen Laymon said in a statement.



Firelock's server vault shields a data center from 2,000 degree heat for at least three hours.

After an explosion and fire caused hosting provider The Planet service interruption in the summer and many other incidents over the years, the threat of fire has gained currency as a weak link in data center disaster preparedness.

Firelock's fireproof server vault, literally the type of vault used in banks, helps protect vital medical records and other mission critical information. Alongside its cutting-edge data protection capabilities and high-availability infrastructure, Integris' new facility complies with HIPAA requirements and other information preservation mandates.

One unique service offered by Integris is its Picture Archiving and Communications System (or PACS) for digital X-Rays, allowing the digital X-Rays to be electronically sent from the hospital to Integris' servers, where they can be instantly accessed by physicians and other caregivers over the secure network. These digital X-Rays generate large volumes of critical patient information and all of it must be must be protected in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
