Dec 9, 2008 : StrataScale Debuts Managed Hosting

📅 December 9, 2008 - Software provider StrataScale (stratascale.com) has announced the general availability of its fully automated managed hosting solution, IronScaleSM, which extends many of the benefits of virtualization to physical servers.

According to the company's Tuesday announcement, IronScale is available in three levels of bundled server environments, built on enterprise-class dual and quad-core x86 dedicated servers, each featuring RAID-configured SAN storage. They offer dedicated bandwidth, VPN access, and full, 24-hour support, as well as the choice between Red Hat Linux and Windows Server operating systems.

A subsidiary of data center operator and managed hosting provider RagingWire (ragingwire.com -> ntt.com), StrataScale first announced IronScale in August and it went into limited availability in September.

According to StrataScale, IronScale lets administrators access their entire IT infrastructure anywhere, anytime, through a web portal. It also offers instant provisioning and dynamic reconfiguration of physical servers, security, storage, and networks on-demand in real-time, giving clients a cost-effective enterprise-class managed hosting solution that delivers resource efficiency, flexibility and performance.

Research director at market research firm IDC, Melanie Posey said IronScale fills a void in the marketplace for a highly automated, managed IT infrastructure solution. "IronScale offers a total infrastructure approach that addresses the entire environment (not just servers and storage) and provides organizations with real-time, on-demand control and flexibility," Posey said in a statement.

Enhancing productivity, IronScale also offers a range of features including cloning, snapshots, on-the-fly storage, instant server re-purposing and auto failover. IronScale applies cutting-edge virtualization applications to physical servers, enabling clients to quickly scale their IT environments, increasing availability and maximizing uptime, according to the company.

"The reception from clients, media, and analyst has been outstanding," StrataScale president Yatish Mishra said in a statement. "We believe we have the right product for the right market at the right time."

December has already become a particularly interesting month for StrataScale, which appointed 20-year industry veteran Robert Vincent general manager and chief operating officer last week.
