Nov 24, 2008 : Email Marketing Activity Rises

📅 - With the holiday season almost underway, the Retail Email Blog (retailemailblog.com) has issued its latest Retail Email Index which reveals that email marketing activity among US retailers is back on the rise.

The findings follow spam reports earlier this month by the Washington Post which saw more than a 75 percent drop in global spam after McColo, a San Jose-based web hosting provider that allegedly hosts "some of the most disreputable cyber-criminal gangs in business today" went offline.

The index showed an 11 percent increase to 272 points in the week ending November 21 compared with the previous week, while increasing by 19 percent from where it was four weeks ago.

The index is based on the activity of the top 100 Internet retailers, which all sent an average of 2.7 different promotional emails last week.

More than half of these emails specifically referenced Christmas, says the Retail Email Blog.

Most emails were sent out on Monday, which the Retail Email Blog said would be the "most popular day of the week to send emails until the end of the year."

Winter sports, toys, cashmere and holiday parties were other common references included in the promotional emails.
