📅 November 7, 2008 - Online service provider Internap Network Solutions (internap.com -> inap.com) announced on Friday that ThePort Network (theport.com), a social media solutions provider, has selected Internap's Performance IP networking services and data center colocation solutions to expand its social media platform.


According to the company's most recent announcement, ThePort selected Internap because it outgrew its previous networking infrastructure and wanted to ensure "the continued high performance of [its] SaaS environment." ThePort adds that it believes "Internap's networking and data center colocation services are unmatched in the industry."

Internap says its solutions offer companies like ThePort an integrated application hosting platform with a 100 percent performance service level agreement because it's based on a patented software technology called Managed Internet Route Optimizer, a global network of private network access points and 44 data center locations around the world.

"Social networking communities require 100 percent performance and reliability, and the combination of ThePort applications and Internap network and data center solutions does exactly that," says Tim Sullivan, chief technology officer at Internap. "We are pleased to provide the technology infrastructure for ThePort's fully hosted, powerful and highly scalable platform that integrates social media into any existing website."

ThePort delivers software as a service solutions that "empower customers to create, operate and monetize socially enabled online communities." The company says that its Social Media Suite integrates a set of social networking, content aggregation and publishing tools into existing web properties, encouraging member-to-member interaction, high-engagement marketing and new revenue streams.

Internap has recently also been active in the content delivery space with the announcement of three new customer wins in just over a month.

On Wednesday the WHIR reported that Internap's CDN had been selected by YOUniversityTV, an online network that calls itself "the first wholly integrated college video resource community."

Prior to that in October, Internap announced its partnership with Beautiful Stranger.TV, a social networking site and online video channel based on fashion and style. And in September, Internap reported it was delivering customized streaming media services for the Million Dollar Round Table, an association of financial professionals.
