Oct 24, 2008 : Hosting Sales And Promos Round-up

📅 - Much of this week's sales and promotion news centered around giving premium products or services away for free (like HostV's free backup service and HostGator's newly "unlimited" hosting plan) or for a reduced cost (like the Planet's 25 percent off server sale and Netriplex's "Uber Bandwidth" offering). Also this week, DemoWolf announced new Web hosting tutorials and HostGator announced a smart phone giveaway for hosted Exchange customers.

HostV adds free backup

Early in the week, virtual private server and dedicated server provider HostV (hostv.com 👉 Total Reviews: 78

) added an additional layer of data backup for its VPS plans at no additional cost to clients. According to the announcement, all clients will automatically receive the new functionality in addition to its standard RAID-10 data protection. Clients can now have their data fully backed up without it counting against their disk space allotment. The data is compressed and encrypted, and stored on a separate drive, making restoring data from a previous restore point through an online interface in their Parallels Virtuozzo control panel easy.

Virtual Private Servers from HostV start at $39.99/monthly for 25GB of disk space and 500GB of top-tier data transfer.

"We are effectively doubling the disk space allotment for our clients by introducing complete backups," said John Xie, president of HostV parent company Cirtex (http://www.citrix.com).

) upgraded its shared hosting plans to offer unlimited space and bandwidth, marking an ambitious service structure change.

While the "unlimited" designation is somewhat troubling from a technical standpoint given there can only be a finite amount of space on servers, companies like Fasthosts (fasthosts.co.uk 👉 Total Reviews: 11

) have importantly differentiated themselves from local market competitors using the term, knowing that shared hosting customers often never approach their hosting account's monthly allowance.

The upgrades are in effect for both new and existing shared hosting customers for all three of the company's shared hosting plans, which will now be differentiated by the extra features offered with each plan.

The company has also began offering SSL certificates with select shared plans.

The Planet extends server sale

Global IT hosting provider The Planet (theplanet.com 👉 Total Reviews: 3

) has extended a limited-time promotion that provides significant discounts on more than 50 servers from its innovative line of bargain servers. The Server Blowout Sale, which was originally scheduled to end Thursday has been extended by 72 hours, offering discounts of up to 25 percent on some of the company's most popular servers.

Customers can take advantage of savings on some of The Planet's most powerful configurations, including Monster, RAID and virtual rack servers. For instance, a Dual Xeon 5130 RAID with four 146GB hard drives is now $314 per month, reduced from $419 and the Dual Xeon 5405 Monster with 10 hard drives and 8GB of RAM is $899 instead of $1,199 per month.

Netriplex offers premium Internet connectivity

This week, US data center provider Netriplex (netriplex.com) released Uber Bandwidth (uberbandwidth.com), a new high-performance, premium Internet connectivity network designed specifically for Web 2.0 priced at $3.99 per Mb. It is initially available at the company's newly expanded data center in North Carolina.

"Businesses are increasingly using the Internet for mission critical applications," Netriplex chief technology officer Jonathan Hoppe said in a statement. "With the proliferation of VOIP, video-on-demand and social networking, our customers demand high-performance Internet connectivity in unprecedented quantity. Uber Bandwidth was created to meet their needs with an extreme network featuring multiple 10 Gb connections to every major network in the US, Canada and Europe."

It is added four rebrandable tutorial series for CubeCart, ZenCart and two for control panel H-Sphere, one for end-users and another for resellers. The end-user series retails for $89.95 for the 31 tutorials, and the reseller for $69.95 for 18 tutorials, however, DemoWolf's Halloween sale ending October 31 lets customers save up to 60 percent off those prices depending on how many tutorials they order.
