👈 Official Responses: 0 -> ibm.com) has expanded its enterprise-class StorageLayer storage and backup service with features providing advanced geographic replication via iSCSI storage and EVault online disk backup.


According to SoftLayer's announcement Monday, these additions to the company's redundant, centralized, storage array StorageLayer are fully automated and can be provisioned in real time through SoftLayer's customer portal and API.

"StorageLayer is always evolving to remain the ultimate storage solution," SoftLayer information systems director Jacob Linscott said in a statement. "With these new features, StorageLayer leverages our iSCSI SAN advantages and our data centers' geographic diversity to provide even more powerful options for data security. Remote data replication is essential for our customers' business continuity and disaster recovery plans."

Integrating multiple storage technologies into one efficient, accessible and reliable data storage and backup solution, the new additions include iSCSI volumes for automatically replicating data and EVault enhancements to backup data to multiple SoftLayer data centers, and iSCSI volume snapshots to track and store changes.

StorageLayer's iSCSI snapshots let customers schedule point-in-time snapshots of their data volumes to provide another local backup solution, complementing the offsite replication capabilities available on iSCSI volumes within StorageLayer.

SoftLayer began offering StorageLayer in October 2007.
