Jun 5, 2008 : InterWeb Media Merges Subsidiaries

📅 June 5, 2008 - Canada-based technology firm InterWeb Media announced on Thursday it has merged its web hosting subsidiaries EXIST Hosting (existhosting.com -> hostpapa.com) and Gogax (gogax.com -> hostpapa.com) to form a single larger hosting company.

InterWeb Media says it will operate both sets of services under the Gogax brand, which has recently "skyrocketed in popularity" according to the company's press release. It will supply the services from from Gogax's upgraded infrastructure, which will offer "the latest hosting technologies such as virtualization, clustered technology and network attached storage."

Founded in 1999, EXIST Hosting offers dedicated and colocation hosting solutions while the more recently launched Gogax, founded in 2007, offers free web hosting and file storage services. In 2008, Gogax began selling professional shared web hosting, dedicated servers and domain registration services as well.

Elazar Cohen, CEO of InterWeb Media, explains via email that the newly consolidated company will continue to offer all sets of services, except for the colocation solutions, which will be replaced by a virtual dedicated server offering. Cohen says colocation services may be re-introduced once the migration is over and the new infrastructure is in place.

Cohen estimates fully integrating EXIST Hosting into the new system shouldn't take longer than around two months.

After the merger, Cohen says the company manages around 600 servers and currently hosts around 50,000 websites, not including dedicated and colocation customers.

On a much larger scale, web hosting provider HostMySite (hostmysite.com ) announced on Wednesday it has been acquired by Wachovia Capital Partners, the private equity arm of the Wachovia Corporation bank.
