Jun 4, 2008 : Parallels Adds Customers, Partners

magna5.com logo📅 - In the past week, web hosting software developer Parallels (parallels.com) has issued a handful of announcements describing new offerings, built using the company's software, on offer at a series of web hosting providers.

The company announced on Wednesday that Irish hosting provider Blacknight Internet Solutions (blacknightvps.com) is offering a set of virtual private server plans based on Parallels' software. The company says it operates out of some of the top facilities in Ireland, including The Data Electronics Group and Interxion, both located in Dublin.

Blacknight is offering four levels of VPS hosting, calling them Starter, Basic, Standard and Enterprise. Each is based on the Virtuozzo Containers virtualization software and Parallels System Automation.

On Monday this week, Parallels made roughly the same announcement regarding the launch of the ActiveVPS division of hosting provider ActiveHost (activehost.com), which will offer Windows-based VPS hosting plans.

ActiveVPS managed hosting plans, says Parallels, are built using the Virtuozzo Containers, Plesk Control Panels and Parallels Business Automation software, as well as SmarterTools business productivity applications and Acronis TrueImage for server backup.

According to the press release, ActiveHost has seen an increase in demand among large enterprises for economical servers that can be used in development and test environments. Many companies are, it says, reducing staff and capacity in corporate data centers. ActiveHost says this translates to enterprises turning to service providers, seeking solutions like VPS.

And apparently without prompting from Parallels, Canadian web host Cirrus Tech (cirrushosting.com 👉 Total Reviews: 25

) reported on Wednesday that it is offering the Plesk 8.4, the latest version of the Parallels control panel software, with all its Linux VPS and dedicated server plans.

It's not stated outright, but it seems to be implied in the announcement that Cirrus Tech is upgrading its solutions from a previous version of Plesk, rather than introducing Plesk into its offerings for the first time.

According to Cirrus Tech, the newest version of Plesk includes new functions for database backup, database users prefix and DomainKeys anti-spam support.

Parallels designs its solutions to be distributed through hosting partners, building toward an ecosystem of compatible software within and without the company's boundaries. The company says its Open Platform initiative and Application Packaging Standard enable the integration of applications, including a wide range of third-party systems and software.

Last week, Parallels announced that it had partnered with PHP platform developer Zend.
