ICANN Calls for Expressions of Interest to Host 2009 Meeting

ICANN is actively soliciting expressions of interest from organisations seeking to host the first ICANN International Public Meeting in 2009. ICANN has previously agreed upon the following location and date:

1-6 March 2009 | Latin America

The specifications outlined in the Request for Proposals detail the estimated required elements of an ICANN meeting and the responsibilities of the hosting organization. ICANN will consider all elements of the meeting in making its decision but will pay special attention to the provision of basic/minimum requirements as specified in the RFP. Any questions on these requirements or other aspects of the call for expressions should be addressed to the ICANN Meeting Staff.

Expression of interest to host the Latin America meeting in 2009 will be accepted through 30 April 2008.

The company says that the price hikes are allowed under its agreement with ICANN (icann.org), which stipulates that Verisign can raise registration fees for .com domain in four of the six years between 2006 and 2012.The .com domain will now be priced at $6.86, while a .net domain will cost $4.23.
