📅 - Search engine giant Google (google.com) is preparing an online storage solution that will enable users to store data from their personal hard drives on to Google's servers.
According to reports by the Wall Street Journal, the online storage subscription-based service may be ready for release early next year and will reportedly include a limited amount of free storage with extra space available for an undisclosed price.
Increased mobility of end users and the rapid proliferation of stored digital content, including documents, photos, video and music, is driving businesses and home users toward fixed fee-based online storage systems that can meet growing storage needs without relying on spinning and space-constrained hard drives, says the company.
The service will enable users to upload their files onto Google's servers and access the files through the Internet from different computers and mobile devices when they sign on using a password.
According to the Journal, a Google spokeswoman declined to comment on any specific online storage plans beyond what it already offers as part of its email and other services.
