Jun 15, 2001 : Oracle Unveils New Database Software


📅 - The Oracle9i database is the newest generation of the company's RDBMS (Regional Database Management System). Oracle claims a number of significant improvements with the release of 9i, including enhanced support for Java and XML, enhanced clustered database scalability with Oracle9i Real Application Clusters, and advancements in high- availability technology and security. Oracle9i will also provide infrastructure for developers wishing to create hosted applications with collaborative software.
Oracle says that industry support for 9i has been strong, with more than 70 per cent of 300 firms who tested the database pledging to make available applications using the technology within the next six months.
"Partner community support for Oracle9i Database has been outstanding," said Renee Knee, senior vice president of worldwide alliances for Oracle. "We've developed a database that provides functionality never before seen at this level, and with the support of our partners, we are excited to offer our customers a wide range of solutions to meet virtually any computing need."
Oracle has a strong grip on the relational database market, including a 66% share of the database market on UNIX systems, according to analyst firm Dataquest.
