📅 - Web hosting company NaviSite, Inc. today announced it had been chosen as the official streaming provider for the Wimbledon Championships. Starting today, coverage of the world famous sporting event will be shown on the Wimbledon Channel section of the official Wimbledon website (wimbledon.org), which is being developed and hosted by IBM and managed by TWI Interactive. It is anticipated that the Wimbledon Channel will deliver over 200,000 streams to viewers in over 99 countries.

Using its streaming media management and distribution system, streamOS, NaviSite will be streaming footage of player interviews, press conferences and tennis news as well as classic match footage. Streaming audio and video will be delivered via the NaviSite network to desktop audiences worldwide during the Wimbledon tournament, which takes place from June 25 to July 8.
"NaviSite is proud to be affiliated with one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, and together with TWI Interactive, we will be expanding and enhancing the experience of Wimbledon through cutting edge use of streaming technology," said John Muleta, Executive Vice President of NaviSite.

NaviSite has streamed a number of high-profile events, including one of the largest live Internet broadcasts - Madonna's London Brixton Academy concert in November 2000. NaviSite was also responsible for recording and streaming footage of the dramatic re-entry of the MIR space station, as well as streaming the popular Budweiser ``Whassup?!'' commercials. NaviSite's sophisticated streaming media solutions are also used by a variety of corporate clients including Microsoft, KPMG, Anheuser-Busch and NFL Films.
A scalable, cost-effective platform for high-performance streaming content management and delivery, NaviSite's streamOS enables customers to use drag-and-drop functionality to deploy, organize, and manage streaming content on their Web sites via a browser-based interface. streamOS employs a utility service approach that allows customers to leverage the high-performance streaming infrastructure provided by streamOS(TM) CDNs, as they need it.
