Aug, 2001 : CyberGuard to Implement VPN Solution Into Firewall Line
📅 - CyberGuard Corporation (cyberguard.com), a technology leader in network security, Wednesday announced that the company will soon unveil a virtual private network product and integrate it into the entire line of CyberGuard premium appliance firewalls.
As electronic commerce continues to replace more traditional businesstransactions, providing the means for secure business dealings to take placeacross the Internet becomes critical. While a firewall protects theintegrity of a network, a VPN allows businesses to construct secure, protected "tunnels" through which business dealings can take place. VPNs canbe used to connect business locations securely and directly to each otherwithout the need for dedicated leased lines; they may also be used toconnect remote users or sites securely with a central location.
"One of the biggest obstacles to implementing a VPN solution successfully isits complexity. Simplicity and security seem to be almost mutuallyexclusive," said Mike Wittig, chief technology officer for CyberGuard. "Ourapproach is to make installing and managing a VPN as easy as possible.CyberGuard firewall appliances are recognized not only for their security, but for how simple they are to manage, so our integrated solution has asingle management interface that makes setup and use easy."
Ease-of-use features that will be built into the VPN are default profilesand helpful pull-down screens. Other features include:
Simple user interface with integrated VPN and firewall managementoffering user-friendly functionalityInteroperability with a wide array of third party platforms andclientsFully integrated standardized IPSec, IKE and X.509 PKI certificatesupportWide range of cryptographic algorithm support including 3DES and AESCapability for VPN access through NAT to remote private networksOptional hardware cryptographic accelerationAccess control for all trafficCentral administration, consolidated monitoring and logging
CyberGuard expects to launch the full-featured integrated VPN productsolution within the next few months.
