Oct, 2001 : HP Appoints New Director Indian Research Lab


📅 - Hewlett-Packard Company yesterday named Dr. Srinivasan Ramani director of HP Labs India (hp.com/country/in/eng). Ramani will be responsible for leading the growth of a new research unit focused oninnovation for emerging economies, developing and managing the lab'sresearch agendas and promoting HP Labs India as a world-class researchorganization.

Headquartered in Bangalore, HP Labs India's mission will be to generateinnovations targeted at the world's emerging economies by understandingrelevant social, cultural, economic and technological drivers. The researchconducted will also help HP's World e-Inclusion efforts - a businessinitiative with a social mission to bridge the digital divide and broadenaccess to social and economic opportunities in traditionally underservedmarkets.
Ramani comes to HP from Silverline Technologies Ltd., where he served asdirector of research and development. He will continue to serve as a memberof its advisory board. Ramani is the executive vice president of theInternational Council for Computer Communication, a position he has heldsince 1999. He also serves on the United Nations High-level Panel ofAdvisors in Information and Communications Technologies.
Earlier in his career, Ramani served as president of the Computer Society ofIndia and as chairman of the board of directors of the Commonwealth Networkon Information Technology for Development. He was also the founding directorat the National Centre for Software Technology in India.
A citizen and resident of India, Ramani holds a Ph.D in electricalengineering, specializing in computer science. He was presented with aLifetime Achievement Award by Dataquest last year.
