Cisco Announces Community Program to Promote VoIP Traffic Growth

(cisco.com), has announced the CiscoService Carrier Community program intended to promote the growth of VoIP(voice over Internet protocol) traffic and propel global service providersto new levels of revenue and profitability. As members of the Cisco ServiceCarrier Community, Cisco-based service providers around the world can worktogether to exchange traffic and maximize respective application strengthswith the ultimate objective of delivering end-to-end VoIP services.

According to Infonetics Research, worldwide revenues for next generationvoice products are forecasted to total $6 billion in 2004. As a leader inVoIP technology, Cisco says it is well positioned to help service providerstake advantage of this growth market. Four of Cisco's VoIP carriercustomers, for example, have each already transported more than one billionVoIP minutes, and one has carried more than two billion minutes of VoIP.
Members of the Cisco Service Carrier Community program are provided with apassword protected, searchable Web database containing profiles of allmembers, including the traffic routes they serve, their contact informationand application services they provide. This allows service providers to findbusiness partners for origination, transport, and termination of voicetraffic in over 200 countries around the world. And for those members whohave achieved Cisco Powered Network status and are providing businesscommunications services, the program will help link them with Cisco'sextensive enterprise and small/medium business customer base. According toa recent report by Synergy Research, Cisco has a 45% share of the rapidlygrowing LAN telephony market.
"This program re-affirms Cisco's commitment to the service provider market,and will enable a network of networks," stated Alistair Woodman, director ofmarketing, voice technology center at Cisco Systems. "Because there arehundreds of service providers worldwide using Cisco's VoIP technology, weare uniquely able to bring this critical mass of companies together. Through the Service Carrier Community Web page, members can access links torelevant product and solution information, and to the Cisco Service ProviderSolutions Ecosystem. This is a community of technology and servicescompanies enabling service providers to rapidly deploy and manage innovativenetworking services.
Service Carrier members will also be given the opportunity to meet potentialbusiness partners at Cisco-sponsored networking events around the world.All of these benefits are intended to help carriers expand their VoIPservice portfolio, grow traffic and increase profitability.
