📅 - The launch of the Microsoft Windows XP operating system in New York City yesterday, was delivered over the Internet by Digital Island (digitalisland.com). Digital Island's 2Way Web Services, and its 2Deliver capability will provide streaming services and access to Microsoft's worldwide online events, available in 55 countries.
Using Digital Island's 2Deliver services, Microsoft will leverage thecompany's global streaming network to lower the cost of delivering contentand dramatically improve the performance and reliability of downloads duringthe launch events. "Today's launch of Windows XP represents the arrival of a new standard ofcomputing," said Shawn Sanford, group product manager for Windows XP atMicrosoft Corp. "Microsoft is excited to have the support of DigitalIsland's 2Deliver services to broadcast the Windows XP worldwide launchevents." During the launch of Windows 2000 in February 2000, Microsoft delivered morethan 200 million downloads over the Digital Island network.
