Oct, 2001 : ISWest Expands Backbones With Internap Agreement
📅 - ISWest (ispec.net), one of Southern California's largest business-to-business ISPs, announced that it has signed an agreement with Internap Network Services Corp. (internap.com -> inap.com).
Internap, a routing services provider, agreed to install the top 10 backboneproviders that carry 95 percent of the world's Internet traffic intoISWest's facility. ISWest currently operates a data center in Agoura Hillsand Los Angeles, Calif., offering co-location and managed Web hosting tobusinesses large and small. Prior to this deal with Internap, ISWest had twobackbone providers, which gave the company redundancy of routing theirInternet traffic. "In the event of a backbone provider having routing trouble, ISWest's Ciscorouters would simply reroute its customer's traffic to our other provider,"said Bob Johnson, chief technical officer for ISWest. "Internap's uniqueapproach to Internet connectivity compliments ISWest's networkinfrastructure and adds to the existing two backbone providers, Level 3 andGlobal Crossing," said Drew Kaplan, director of sales & marketing forISWest. "Now we will have a total of 10 backbone providers such as: AT&T,Cable & Wireless, Sprintlink, UUNet, Genuity , Verio, Digex and Qwest.Working with Internap enables us to offer a diverse connectivity to theInternet, which offers even more redundancy and reliability than we alreadyhave."
