Nov 20, 2001 : Microsoft IIS Gets Protection From Zeus
📅 - Zeus Technology Limited (zeus.com), a provider of Web server software and solutions, announced that its customers will now be ableto evaluate the Zeus Secure Web Serving Solution.
The Secure Web Serving Solution is designed to sit in front of Microsoft'sIIS Web server, identifying and discarding incoming attempts to exploitvulnerabilities in customers' IIS servers or other internal infrastructurewithout the need for wholesale platform migration. Based on the Zeus WebServer, the solution demonstrates many of the anti-denial-of-servicefeatures that will be released in the next major release of the Zeus WebServer.
These features include parsing incoming requests and blocking discreet URLsdescribed by a set of rules. The rule set can be modified or updateddynamically, so that modifying the rules in anticipation of a new attackrequires no downtime, or even a server restart.
As part of the development of anti-denial-of-service technology, the ZeusSecure Web Serving Solution allows customers to build an "HTTP Firewall"; agatekeeper that protects existing infrastructure from attacks from theInternet.
"The Zeus Secure Web Serving Solution will enable organisations that havebeen plagued by Code-Red and Nimda to quickly secure their infrastructureagainst these attacks whilst maintaining their investment in Microsofttechnology," said Zeus CEO John Paterson.
The Zeus Secure Web Serving Solution will initially be available tocustomers who wish to evaluate or deploy the solution as part of a previewprogramme. Full availability is expected in Q1, 2002.
