Dec, 2001 : F5 Networks Joins HP Blade Server Alliance Program


📅 - F5 Networks, Inc. (f5.com -> hostinger.com), a provider of Internet trafficand content management products, announced that it has delivered the firstload balancing solution to run on Hewlett-Packard Company's new blade serverseries and has joined the HP (hp.com) Blade Server Alliance Program.

F5's BIG-IP software, when integrated on an HP-certified blade, provideshigh availability and intelligent traffic management across Web servers,caches, firewalls, and other services and applications running inside the HPblade server. The HP blade server, announced yesterday, is the market'sfirst high-density modular server solution from any major computer vendor.
"We're pleased to provide the first HP-certified load balancing solution forHP's new blade server series," said Tom Pettigrew, vice-president of channelsales at F5 Networks. "Because of their CompactPCI-based open standard bladestrategy, HP has the broadest blade ecosystem available today. And, sinceF5's core value is in our software, we were able to quickly deliver afeature-rich, comprehensive load balancing solution that's fully compatiblewith HP's blade server series. F5's iControl API, which is part of BIG-IP,will add further value to the overall solution by making it possible forapplications to directly interoperate with the network's traffic managementinfrastructure."
Having completed a formal interoperability and compatibility testing processto HP standards, F5 joins the HP Blade Server Alliance Program, under whichHP will sell the product and assist F5 with their "go-to-market" efforts forthe BIG-IP solution. As a result, customers will be able to purchase theBIG-IP solution optimized for HP's blade server through the HP sales force,resellers, and F5's Advantage Program Reseller Partners.

As a fully integrated, plug-n-play component of the HP blade server, theBIG-IP solution makes it easy for HP customers to achieve higher reliabilityand increase the return on investment for their network infrastructure.BIG-IP, through its virtualization capabilities, serves as the glue thatoptimizes how the different blades work together and simplifies managementby allowing the customer to view them as one single device.
