Onlex Receives Canadian Patent for Remote Activation Technology
📅 - Onlex Technologies, Inc. (onlex.com) today announced that theCanadian Intellectual Property Office has granted the company Canadianpatent number 2205693 for its technology invention for remote activation ofdial-up systems using the new virtual dedicated connections process.
The technology described in the patent, entitled "System and Method forTriggering Actions at a Host Computer by Telephone," will create a newdial-up system topology, giving enterprises the ability to access variouscomputing devices and systems remotely over a seamless and ubiquitousnarrowband network. This is the second patent awarded to Onlex, the firstbeing U. S. patent 5,809,118 issued in 1998. Other patents are currentlypending.
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office issued the patent last month toOnlex on behalf of CTO Sam Carmello and co-inventors. The patent covers boththe algorithms and processing methods invented by the team.
Currently, many enterprises use dialup technology for remote access tocomputing systems in remote offices, data centers and other locations.Narrowband access technology is limited to dial-in or dial-back processes.An example of the patented process is that enterprises can now access aremote narrowband connection at a customer's site, from a local help desk,customer service center, or technical support location by requesting aconnection to a product or multiple products. A call or multiple calls aremade, after two rings the connection is dropped and the remote devices thenplace a call to connect back to the local customer service center site. Thisprocess is called virtual dedicated connections or VDC and requires no humaninteraction, is 100% secure, and it works without a VPN or the need toaccess a remote enterprises intranet, the company says.
