Jan, 2002 : F5 Networks Adds BIG-IP 2000 Application Switch
📅 - F5 Networks, Inc. (f5.com -> hostinger.com), a provider of Internet trafficand content management products, yesterday announced the BIG-IP 2000,rounding out F5's family of IP application switches that are designed tomanage traffic Web services and applications.
The BIG-IP 2000 offers an all-in-one Layer 2/7 switching solution thatincludes BIG-IP's Layer 7 software capabilities, integrated SSL processing,and high port density, the company stated.
"With the delivery of the BIG-IP 2000, F5 is executing on its promise ofaddressing the needs of all sizes of enterprises with a comprehensivesolution for application switching," said Lucinda Borovick, director, DataCenter Networks, IDC.
The BIG-IP 2000 offers centralized processing, a switch fabric design, andintegrated SSL termination for an optimized solution that reducesadministration duties. The BIG-IP 2000 provides small-to medium-sizedenterprises and service providers with the right amount of ports forredundant uplinks and connections on backend servers. Itcomes with 16 Fast Ethernet and 2 Gb Ethernet switch ports to support fastuplinks and multiple servers and devices.
The BIG-IP 2000 ships with integrated SSL processing (100 TPS) at noadditional charge to secure applications and offload SSL processing fromservers. The SSL processing can be upgraded on demand via a software licensekey.
The BIG-IP 2000 IP Application Switch will be generally available on Feb.15, with the base model priced at $24,250 for a single unit and $42,250 fora redundant pair. A base model unit is configured with 16 Fast Ethernet and2 Gigabit Ethernet switch ports. Each is supplied by a single PIII 1 GHzprocessor connected to the switch fabric and 1 Gigabyte of memory, andincludes 100 TPS SSL capacity, remotely upgradeable to 800 TPS. A version ofthe BIG-IP 2000 loaded with F5's 3-DNS wide area load balancing solution isalso available.
