📅 January 31, 2002 - Cogent Communications Group, Inc. (cogentco.com ), a next-generation optical ISP, announced yesterday that it has been approved for listing on the American Stock Exchange. The Exchange's Committee on Securities determined, due to a number of factors including Cogent'scompliance with all other applicable guidelines, that Cogent complies withthe listing eligibility guidelines and should be approved for listing eventhough it does not fully meet the $15 million guideline for market value ofpublic float based on the current market value of Allied Riser's publicfloat.The Exchange's approval remains subject to certain conditions, including thesuccessful completion of Cogent's acquisition of Allied Riser CommunicationsCorporation (alliedriser.com). Pending approval of the transaction by Allied Riser's stockholders at their special meeting on Jan. 31, Cogent expects tocomplete its acquisition of Allied Riser later that day, at which time itexpects it will meet the Exchange's conditions for listing. Once listed onthe American Stock Exchange, Cogent will trade under the symbol COI.

Citing an overall weak economy, sales and lowered sales for telephone services and high-speed fiber optic capacity, the company reported a net loss of $516 million, or 31 cents a share, compared with net losses of $116 million, or 7 cents a share, a year previous.
