Mar, 2002 : Genuity Launches Mirrored Storage Solution
📅 - Managed infrastructure and hosting firm Genuity (genuity.com) today announced the availability of its new Black Rocket Storage solution, which the company said is the first end-to-end managed storage over IP solution to be offered by a service provider.
The new suite is designed to provide companies with continued access to critical data during both planned and unplanned service outages. It consists of a suite of services that include remote data replication and failover, on-demand capacity and hosted storage solutions.
Genuity's replication service will make use of storage services and software provided by EMC, an enterprise storage solutions firm.
The company's service portfolio is comprised of both Web hosting and infrastructure services, making a storage over IP solution both a good fit and easy to build, said Paul Keresey, Genuity's Director of Product Management, Storage and Edge Services."What we've seen in the marketplace is opportunities to merge those two business together to become a complete service offering for a customer," he said.
Keresey also said the company has seen an increase in demand over the past year from companies interested in "protecting data and protecting their core business that is represented by that data."
By using its own managed network, which is cheaper than leasing private lines, and making use of the company's managed storage facilities in various data centers, Genuity is aiming to prove to companies that outsourcing its storage and back-up needs will be less expensive than handling it in-house. "It's a complete offering," Keresey said. "It will be hopefully much more cost effective than a customer doing it themselves on either a private line or traditional network service."
