Mar, 2002 : ASTD Outsources IT Infrastructure To Interliant


📅 - The American Society for Training and Development(astd.org), a professional association and resource for workplace learning and performance, has contracted to outsource its entire IT function toInterliant, Inc. (interliant.com), a global application service provider, the company announced today. Under the terms of the three-year contract, thetransition from in-house to outsourced IT infrastructure will be fully implemented by the end of the second quarter of 2002.

"This agreement with Interliant, which is part of our vision to outsourceall non-core competencies, is an excellent match between our requirementsand their capabilities," said Tony Bingham, COO and CIO for ASTD. "Freeingthe organization of the costs and difficulties of handling our IT in-housecreates a tremendous opportunity to better serve all our stakeholders and toenhance our service levels to our membership and our internal constituentsalike."
Founded in 1944, Alexandria, Virginia-based ASTD provides information,research, analysis, and information derived from its own research, theknowledge and experience of its members, conferences, expositions, seminars,publications, and the coalitions and partnerships it has built throughresearch and policy work. ASTD's membership includes more than 70,000people, working in the field of workplace performance in 100 countriesworldwide. Its leadership and members work in more than 15,000 multinationalcorporations, small and medium sized businesses, government agencies,colleges and universities.
Under the terms of the contract, Interliant will provide the ASTD:
Full-time, on-site IT servicesSystem migration from current systems to Microsoft Exchange 2000 andMicrosoft Windows 2000Managed messaging on Microsoft ExchangeManaged hosting for public and internal Web sitesManaged VPN and managed firewall services and databaseadministration servicesOngoing e-commerce and strategic consulting
"We've worked with Interliant hosting services in the past and we selectedthem for this contract based on their historical performance, flexibility,and the breadth of services they offer," Bingham said. "After a detailedanalysis, our expectation is that we will reduce costs and significantlyimprove service levels over our in-house function, for which it wasdifficult to recruit skilled professionals."
