Mar, 2002 : Auspex Systems to Deploy InfiniBand Network Servers
📅 - Auspex Systems, Inc. (auspex.com), a provider of enterprisestorage solutions, announced yesterday plans to deploy InfiniBand technologyto enhance the performance and scalability of its NS3000 series of networkservers and data management appliances.
Auspex is the first vendor to announce an InfiniBand architecture for anetwork storage product line, improving the throughput and expandability ofthe current generation of storage products through a high-bandwidth,point-to-point I/O interconnect strategy that overcomes bottlenecks.
Auspex will deliver InfiniBand functionality based on semiconductorsprovided by Mellanox Technologies, a silicon supplier for InfiniBanddevices. In addition, Auspex has joined the InfiniBand Trade Association, aconsortium that developed an interconnect standard for I/O technologies.
"We have been testing an InfiniBand system in our lab for over a year, andthe implementation has resulted in dramatic speed gains on our internalbus," said Jim Garvey, vice president of Engineering at Auspex Systems. "Nowthat InfiniBand technology is being widely accepted as the new industrystandard, we are moving quickly to make these performance benefits availableto our customers."
Auspex is using InfiniBand interconnect technology to speed inter-processorcommunication inside its servers and appliances. Faster data throughput andother performance improvements will be achieved through the technology'simproved utilization of the 64-bit bus, reduced load on the host processor,and the efficient message routing of InfiniBand's point-to-point topology.Implementing InfiniBand also will make it possible to increase scalabilityby connecting additional I/O nodes through inter-node networking.
InfiniBand technology will be deployed both in Auspex's NS3000 family ofnetwork servers and in the new Auspex NSc3000 Network Storage Controller,the first multivendor SAN-to-NAS gateway. The controller, announced earlierthis month, lowers storage management costs by using an enterprise'sexisting SAN infrastructure to deliver file services and file sharingthrough a small appliance that fits in a standard rack.
