Apr, 2002 : Unified Web Media Debuts Microsoft Producer Hosting
📅 - Unified Web Media (unifiedwebmedia.com), a Web hosting company focused on providing affordable Microsoft-based solutions, announced on Monday that it has introduced its new Microsoft Producer Hosting Service, designed to allow small companies with limited design resources to publish streaming audio and video presentations on the Web.
"Our Producer e-service was designed from the ground up as a cost- effective way to reliably host rich media content and make it accessible to all Internet users," says Larry Strange, founder and president of Unified Web Media. "It's an optimized hosting environment that's as simple as saving to a hard drive." Microsoft Publisher is a free add-on to PowerPoint for Office XP, designed to allow users to capture, synchronize and publish audio, video, slides and images for on-demand viewing through the Web. Unified Web Media says its Producer hosting service allows small businesses to add video- and voice-enhanced slide shows to their Web sites with one click. Visitors to the site can view the Producer files as presentations in sequence, or use the linked table of contents to jump to specific sections. Microsoft says the purpose of Producer is to enable companies to create audio and video content without the need for experts and specialized tools. Adding streaming video, slides, audio and other images to its Web site, says Microsoft, can help a business reach audiences in a more powerful way. United Web Media says a free demonstration of its Producer hosting service is available online at www.producerhosting.com.

📅 - Collapse of Bandwidth Prices May Be Nearing End: Report - The dramatic price collapse of bandwidth, caused by the infamous "bandwidth glut," may be nearing an end, according to a new report from research firm TeleGeography (telegeography.com). The new report, titled "Terrestrial Bandwidth 2002," confirms that the supply of city-to-city bandwidth still exceeds actual needs. According to TeleGeography, more than 6.5 terabits of lit capacity now traverse London, for example - four times more than the combined bandwidth requirements of the forty largest cities in Europe. However, with prices already at or even below costs, TeleGeography said it seems unlikely that the capacity oversupply will depress prices any further. A
