Sun Microsystems Reaches Linux Users With Grid Software Collaboration


📅 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. (sun.com/grid) today announced its Grid Engine 5.3 Software is now available in the new release of SuSE Linux 8.0 Professional Edition.

With the Grid software, SuSE Linux (suse.com) users will be able to implement cluster grids, often used in technical, commercial and academic research computing environments. With rapid adoption, Sun Grid Engine software powers more than 150,000 CPUs in over 4,000 grids worldwide. Nearly 35 percent of those CPUs are in Linux environments. This new arrangement will deliver the grid computing to the growing community of Linux users.
?Distributing Grid Engine software with SuSE Linux 8.0 will catalyze the adoption of grid computing and significantly increases the exposure of grid computing in the Linux and Unix communities,? said Wolfgang Gentzsch, director of grid computing, Sun Microsystems.
