May 8, 2002 : SlipStream Data Gets $1.5M in Funding
📅 - Private capital management firm EdgeStone Capital Partners announced on Tuesday that it has invested $1.5 million in SlipStream Data Inc. (slipstreamdata.com), a technology company, based in Waterloo, Ontario, that has developed software to improve the speed of Internet and network access.
SlipStream's patent-pending technology, says EdgeStone, uses lossless data compression and advanced network and content optimization technologies to create a solution suitable for end users, application developers and service providers.
The company's solutions are also available to organizations and individuals in the process of deploying wireless and mobile networks, saving them the time and money involved in developing complex end user applications.
"SlipStream's technology plays an essential role in the continued expansion of the networked economy," says Ron Neumann, president of SlipStream Data. "With the proliferation of Web-based, network hosted and wireless applications, accelerated access has become a key issue in corporate and employee performance. In fact, accelerated access and delivery is now emerging as one of the key challenges of the information revolution. SlipStream's solutions deliver tangible and measurable improvement incommunication speeds."
SlipStream says the fast and efficient delivery of data content anywhere in the world is one of its primary objectives. The company says data compression and network optimization technologies are destined for a key role in maintaining control over the investments in infrastructure required for delivering data content over the Internet.
EdgeStone Capital Partners says its investment in SlipStream is part of its long term plan to invest in high growth-potential technology companies. The company believes that SlipStream has the potential to show significant growth in the short term.
A pre-release version of SlipStream's technology is in testing with Internet service provider Sentex Data Communications, where SlipStream says it is increasing browsing speeds by a factor of up to six times for dial-up users.
