Jun, 2002 : Cable & Wireless Connects CDN with Tiscali
📅 - Global telecommunications group Cable & Wireless (cw.com) announced on Wednesday that it has formed an agreement with Tiscali International Network (tiscali.net), the carrier arm of European Internet company Tiscali, to connect its content delivery network into Tiscali's pan-European network.
The agreement, says Cable & Wireless, will significantly extend the pan-European penetration of Cable & Wireless's content delivery services, supplementing the coverage of its own IP network through a reliable high-speed connection to Tiscali's customer base of 7.4 million active users.
C&W will place CDN server clusters at Tiscali's POPs in 14 countries across Europe, optimizing the speed and accessibility of its customers? Web sites with its intelligent Web caching system.
Through the agreement, says C&W, Tiscali will gain a portion of the revenue for traffic carried over its network.
"This agreement is an important step in enabling us to deliver global content close to individual desktops and homes across Europe," said Andrew McGrath, president, service providers, Cable & Wireless. "Tiscali has greater European coverage than any competing ISP and we expect that our agreement will significantly enhance our content delivery proposition to any content provider seeking the best possible access to web users across Europe."
