Aug, 2002 : Rackspace Employs BMC Monitoring Services

📅 August 7, 2002 - Enterprise management software provider BMC Software Inc. (bmc.com) announced on Wednesday that hosting firm Rackspace Managed Hosting is now offering BMC's SiteAngel Web site performance and availability subscription service and GuardianAngel infrastructure monitoring.

"By including BMC Software's SiteAngel and GuardianAngel in our hosting offerings, we can deliver a complete end-to-end solution with Web site performance monitoring from a customer point of view and infrastructure monitoring from an application point of view while dramatically reducing our customers' management costs," said Robert Miggins, vice president of sales and product management, Rackspace Managed Hosting.
SiteAngel is a Web-based service that monitors the end-to-end customer experience at a Web site. It can be accessed via the Internet using a browser. The information provided by SiteAngel can be used to assure service level agreements.
Rackspace, says BMC, will also use the GuardianAngel solution to deliver a hosted service that monitors the quality of service of users? enterprise systems.

📅 Aug 6, 2002 - Digex to Cut 20 Percent of Workforce - Managed Web hosting provider Digex Incorporated (digex.com) said on Tuesday that it would lay off 200 employees, or 20 percent of its work force, in an effort to cut its expenses. Digex's cost-cutting measures come following the bankruptcy of telecommunications giant WorldCom, which owns a stake of more than 90 percent in the Web hosting firm. Digex currently relies heavily on WorldCom for funding, a part of the relationship that WorldCom's bankruptcy could make difficult.
