Sep, 2002 : Radware Mitigates Apache SSL Worm Attacks

📅 - Intelligent application switching provider Radware (radware.com) announced on Monday that it has released protection against the newly discovered Apache/mod SSL Worm attack.

The attack, once successfully launched, allows hackers to penetrate a user's network and run malicious codes on the victim's server. Hackers can use the vulnerability to gain root access to the victims? servers, abusing resources and using systems as attack platforms for Distributed Denial of Service attacks against other sites.
Radware says it provides multiple layers of defense against the Apache/mod SSL Worm. Radware's Application Security module prevents and blocks the worm before it enters the network. Current Application Security users, says Radware, can add the new signature using the Radware interface.
The company says its CertainT 100 SSL Accelerator solves SSL vulnerabilities by terminating SSL sessions and forwarding only legitimate secure transactions. The CertainT 11 security mechanisms block the Apache/mod SSL Worm, among other attacks.
"Our ability to mitigate this new and dangerous code exemplifies the strength and flexibility of our architecture," says Amir Peles, Radware's CTO. "Both the CertainT 100 secure solution and Application Security module allow us to prevent and block SSL based attacks."
